WestJet Warns of Ongoing Telemarketing Scam

November 5, 2014 2:42 PM | News

WestJet LogoWestJet is warning Canadians about a number of telemarketing scams that continue to plague unsuspecting callers.

The airline says telemarketers are targeting random phone numbers trying to sell potentially questionable holiday packages to Mexico. The scammers sometimes spoof local area codes to increase the likelihood of their call being answered.

WestJet has identified several companies represented on the calls, including Luxury Getaway Group, Caribbean Sun Trips, Caribbean Sun Group, and Global Group Travel.

WestJet does not use telemarketers or make telemarketing phone calls, nor does it share guests’ private information with third parties for the purposes of telemarketing. The airline also says it is not connected in any way to any of the above companies.

Anyone who receives such a call can report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
