Winnipeg’s Assiniboine Park Zoo is waiving admission fees for all veterans and military personnel beginning Saturday.

From November 8-14, military service members can visit the zoo free of charge.

“It’s important to remember and recognize those who have made personal sacrifices to serve their country at home and abroad in times of conflict and on peacekeeping missions,” said Dr. Brian Joseph, director of zoological operations at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. “Having served as an army reserve veterinarian, I’ve seen that sacrifice and dedication firsthand.”

During Remembrance Week at the Zoo, visitors can also show their pride and support by purchasing a lapel poppy at the zoo entrance, with proceeds going to the Charleswood branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Remembrance Day, November 11.
