Man Charged in Notre Dame Avenue Sexual Assault

Winnipeg Police CrestA Winnipeg man has been charged after a 27-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on November 7.

Police say the suspect and victim were known to each other and attended a residence in the 1500 block of Notre Dame Avenue between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

It was at that time the man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

Lawrence James Smail, 35, was arrested Tuesday and has been charged with sexual assault and breach of recognizance.

He remains in custody.
