Winnipeg Transit has been recognized by the Ontario Municipal Benchmarking Initiative as the top transit agency in the country.

OMBI, an independent benchmarking authority, ranked Winnipeg Transit favourably on its performance pertaining to operating cost measures, as well as having amongst the lowest operating subsidies.

“Winnipeg Transit takes tremendous pride in providing cost effective service to Winnipeggers, and as such is delighted with the results presented in this report,” said Dave Wardrop, director of Winnipeg Transit. “Regular benchmarking with other municipalities provides us with a means to evaluate and improve our service. We look forward to continuing to build upon this success with further improvements in service delivery.”

The report singled out transit’s low operating cost per vehicle hour, which is 26 percent lower than the municipal average. Its operating revenue/cost ratio was also 30 percent higher than the average municipality.
