Winnipeg Awakens to Blanket of Snow

Winnipeg woke up to a blanket of snow Sunday morning, just as Santa Claus departed the city.

About 2 cm fell, creating for icy road conditions in and around Winnipeg. Flurries continue to fall and the daytime high is -6°C.

About 2 to 4 cm of additional snow is in the forecast. Environment Canada says to expect local blowing snow this afternoon. Winds will be from the southwest at 20 km/h becoming northwest 20 this morning then north 50 gusting to 70 this afternoon.

Highway 1 both east and west of Winnipeg is reported as partly snow covered as of 10 a.m. with swirling snow in traffic. The latest highway conditions can be found at MB511.ca.

Monday can expect a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -11°C.
