Security Guard Tasered at Polo Park Mall

Winnipeg Police CrestA man attempting to make off with $380 in merchandise from a Polo Park department store Tasered a security guard who tried to stop him on Sunday.

Winnipeg police were called to Polo Park Shopping Centre at around 12:10 p.m., where a loss prevention officer tried to stop the man as he was leaving the store without paying.

The suspect began to fight with the officer when two other guards came to his aid. The suspect used a Taser and stunned one of the guards in the lower body.

Despite the scuffle, the suspect was able to be held for police.

Michael William Redden, 23, of Winnipeg has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, theft under $5,000, carrying a concealed weapon or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon and possession of a weapon.

Redden remains in custody.

In a similar incident, a Taser was used on a security guard at a Smitty’s restaurant in the 400 block of Westwood Drive on Saturday morning.
