Fewer snow days could be in store for Winnipeg students due to a new temperature reading policy.
Superintendents at school divisions across the city have made a policy change to use the temperature reading at The Forks instead of James Richardson International Airport.
The hope is fewer school bus cancellations take place due to the temperature within the city being more comparable to what students face than in an open field at the airport. Buses will be cancelled if the wind chill reading is -45°C or colder at 6 a.m. at The Forks.
Notice of school bus cancellations will be provided to media outlets and posted on school division websites as soon as the morning reading is published by Environment Canada.
