Man Stabbed, Robbed Waiting for Bus on Balmoral Street

Winnipeg Police CrestA 50-year-old man waiting at a bus shop was stabbed and robbed of his property Monday evening.

The victim was at the intersection of Balmoral Street and Cumberland Avenue when an unknown man asked for a cigarette. The suspect then pulled out a large knife and demanded the suitcase the man was carrying. When he refused, another man approached the victim and a scuffle ensued.

Both the victim and suspect were cut, resulting in a puncture wound in the upper body of the victim. The victim turned over the suitcase and both suspects fled the area.

Officers were called to an apartment block in the 400 block of William Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. on an unrelated matter, where they found the victim’s stolen suitcase and one of the suspects.

Hardisty Ballantyne, 37, of Winnipeg has been charged with robbery and identity fraud, and intent to avoid arrest.

Police are still trying to locate the second suspect.
