Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police have tracked down an alleged jewel thief after his third reported robbery.

Police say the man stole cash and items from several businesses on three separate occasions beginning last month.

On October 31, the suspect allegedly made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from a hotel in the 700 block of Main Street. Police say he waited for hotel staff to leave the cash register unattended and then reached over the counter.

On November 15, the same suspect is said to have stolen two valuable rings from a jewellery store in the 900 block of Main Street. Again, the suspect waited until staff was distracted before reaching over the counter.

Then on November 17, a pharmacy in the 700 block of Main Street had their window smashed and the suspect gained entry. Police say a large quantity of medication was stolen.

A police investigation was able to identify the suspect through surveillance footage.

Kyle Kenneth Desmarais, 30, of Winnipeg has been charged with two counts of break and enter, theft under $5,000 and theft over $5,000, as well as two counts of failing to comply with the condition of a recognizance order.

He remains in custody.

The stolen rings and some of the medication were recovered.
