WINNIPEG — One of two harbour seals housed at the Assiniboine Park Zoo has passed away after becoming caught on an underwater drain.
“The death of an animal is always hard and this is no exception,” said Dr. Brian Joseph, director of zoological operations. “The harbour seals have been a great addition to the zoo and we know our visitors and volunteers will also be grieving this loss.”
Zoo staff say the seal was unable to free itself from the drain. This was one of two blind rescued harbour seals transferred this past summer from the Vancouver Aquarium to the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
