Winnipeg Taxicab Driver Thrown Trying to Stop Carjacking

Winnipeg Police CrestA taxicab driver was thrown from his vehicle attempting to stop two women from stealing it early Saturday morning.

Winnipeg police say the driver stopped at a gas station at around 3:30 a.m. in the area of McPhillips Street and Selkirk Avenue. That’s when two women got into the cab and attempted to drive off. The driver reached inside the vehicle to try and stop them, but was thrown. He suffered minor injuries.

The cab struck one of the gas pump barriers and also a parked vehicle in the rear lane of the 800 block of Selkirk Avenue. The suspects then abandoned the cab and fled the area on foot.

The suspects are described as females between 18-20 years of age, 5’4” tall and 150 pounds.
