Two Winnipeg community centres are now under the direction of an amalgamated board of directors.

Richmond Kings and Waverley Heights Community Centres will be overseen by the South Winnipeg Community Centre (SWCC).

“The goal of the amalgamation is to maximize our current resources for the benefit of our collective communities,” said SWCC president Chuck Davidson. “The new South Winnipeg Community Centre Board will improve functionality of our centres, reduce duplication of effort, resources and volunteers, reduce operating costs, and allow us to expand our current program structure.”

A new interim board of directors were appointed on November 17 at a meeting with officials from General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres.

Davidson says the SWCC will develop new program activities, improve the delivery of the services that are provided, and improve existing, and develop new, partnerships within the community.

A new website and newsletter will be created in the coming months to engage community residents.
