Winnipeg police have launched their annual festive season checkstop program in partnership with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, aimed at taking impaired drivers off the road.

During the month of December and including New Year’s Eve, motorists can expect to see an increased presence of police officers city roadways. Police will be focusing on areas where alcohol is being consumed such as bars, restaurants, Christmas parties and socials.

Again this year, the names of drivers charged with impaired driving-related offences will be made public.

Taking a cab or a bus, contacting Operation Red Nose or identifying a designated driver, are some options to consider.

Those who spot a suspected impaired driver on the road should call 911 immediately.
