Fans, players and officials of Winnipeg’s soccer community will gather at The Forks on Saturday for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 official draw.
The city is hosting a number of matches in June along with other Canadian cities during the month-long tournament.
To celebrate the draw, the tournament’s local organizing committee will be holding festivities beginning at 10 a.m. The official draw begins at 11 a.m. and players from two Winnipeg-based U-10 Girls teams will place the flag of each drawn nation onto a draw board in front of the audience in attendance. A prize draw for two pairs of tickets to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 at Investors Group Field will also be available to be won.
TSN’s Sara Orlesky will host the event.
The live broadcast of the draw will screen on a six-foot-tall LED screen in The Forks’ atrium and run until noon.
FIFA officials were in Winnipeg on October 6 to inspect Investors Group Field and will return to the city on Monday.
