Wreaths Across Canada is having the inaugural ceremony in Manitoba at the Field of Honour in Brookside Cemetery on Sunday, December 7, at 11a.m. (BISON TRANSPORT)
WINNIPEG — An inaugural ceremony of the annual Wreaths Across Canada will reach the Field of Honour in Brookside Cemetery on Sunday.
Bison Transport has partnered with the Royal Canadian Air Force 17 Wing and several other branches of the Canadian Armed Forces to bring the first wreath-placing ceremony to Manitoba. The final wreaths out of the 240 delivered by Bison Transport will be placed around Brookside’s “Stone of Remembrance.”
The initiative was launched in 2007 in Ottawa by Craig McPhee, a Canadian Armed Forces veteran. The first ceremony under this initiative was held in St. John’s, Newfoundland in December 2009. In December 2011, McPhee organized a similar ceremony at the National Military Cemetery located Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
Winnipeg is the third destination for Wreaths Across Canada. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. Members of the public are invited to attend and may arrive beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Brookside Cemetery is located at 3001 Notre Dame Avenue west of Red River College and Route 90.
