Winnipeg Students to Chat with Actress Jessica Alba

December 8, 2014 2:46 PM | News

Dalhousie School in Winnipeg has been selected to video chat with actress Jessica Alba on Wednesday.

The school is part of the Hour of Code event, which aims to encourage young people to get involved in computer science.

Alba is the event’s ambassador and will take questions from the Pembina Trails elementary school.

“Students think it is neat to see someone who is a celebrity coding like they are,” said Dalhousie vice-principal Jennifer Bracken. “This is the first time Dalhousie has participated in the Hour of Code so the concept of coding is new to these students. They will experience a type of literacy that will better prepare them for the 21st century work force.”

Described as the largest event in history, Hour of Code attracts students in 57,000 classrooms across the world.
