Bipole III (MANITOBA HYDRO)
Manitoba’s opposition Progressive Conservatives say it’s not too late to pull the plug on the controversial Bipole project.
The Tories say the NDP government isn’t being transparent enough about the $4.6 billion transmission line.
“Manitoba Hydro is a gem, but it isn’t being allowed to shine when the NDP keeps everyone in the dark,” said PC leader Brian Pallister.
The Tories say, according to their sources, less than $80 million of the approximately $600 million paid out so far for the transmission line is not recoverable.
“The loss to agricultural producers will exceed the total acreage of Assiniboine, St. Vital and Kildonan parks, along with that of all other Winnipeg green spaces,” said PC agriculture critic Blaine Pedersen.
The Tories add unanswered questions about the now-shelved $400 million Conawapa project also remain, including a line-by-line breakdown on expenditures, which the government denied.
