Manitoba Bisons football player Nic Demski and women’s volleyball player Taylor Pischke have been nominated as 2014 athlete of the year finalists by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Also picking up nods is the Bison men’s golf team, while Bison volleyball head coaches Ken Bentley and Garth Pischke will receive special achievement awards.
Demski, 21, was named as 2014 CIS Football Second Team All-Canadian and 2014 Canada West All-Star. The Winnipeg native made Bison history as the first player to be named on four CIS All-Canadian teams.
Pischke, 21, had an amazing year both at the conference and CIS level in her second season at Manitoba during the 2013-14 season while major accomplishment in beach volleyball in 2014. The Winnipeg native was named the 2013-14 Canada West Second Team All-Star after she finished twice in Canada West Top 10 categories in 2013-14 with a seventh place in conference kills per set at 3.46 (72 sets/249 kills) and eighth in conference points per set at 3.87 (72 sets/278.5 points).
The winners will be announced at the 59th annual Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Dinner on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel.
