Siloam Mission will receive a massive donation of toys today in time for the holidays from employees at The Bargain Shop.
TBS at 1674 Main Street is closing its doors in January, forcing staff to find employment elsewhere. With their futures in the balance, the store rallied together to collect more than 1,000 toys valued at nearly $10,000 for the homeless shelter.
The toys will populate Siloam’s “toy store” that will open for three days next week, providing families with gifts to put under the tree this Christmas.
“Many of these employees have been with the store from the beginning,” said Maria Alice Soares of TBS. “They are personally devastated by the imminent job losses yet they are determined to make this their most successful toy drive ever. It’s all about community helping community.”
A van loading up the toys will depart from TBS at 10:30 a.m. to head to 300 Princess Street.
