Freezing rain overnight and cooler temperatures have created an icy situation on many southern Manitoba highways.

Social media reports on Monday morning had Highway 59 listed as particularly slippery, while the Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation website reported Highway 1 east and west of the city as ice-covered.

Major routes within the city had seen a treatment of sand overnight.
