WINNIPEG — An equipment failure is being blamed as the culprit behind a widespread service outage for MTS customers on Monday.
Wireless and wireline services were interrupted for most of the afternoon and into the evening.
MTS says an equipment failure caused multiple cellular sites to lose service.
“Although the failed equipment had a backup, it did not function properly, leading to increased traffic and causing high levels of network congestion impacting 4G HSPA wireless and some wireline services,” the company said in a statement.
Cellular sites were reset and gradually brought back online allowing both wireless and wireline services to be restored.
