An intoxicated man who allegedly punched a Winnipeg police cadet is facing an assault charge after an incident on Sunday.
While patrolling a special event in the 300 block of Portage Avenue at around 4:45 p.m., cadets noticed the man causing a disturbance by yelling at pedestrians and challenging them to fight.
The man was taken into custody and allegedly punched one of the cadets in the upper body while being restrained with the help of a witness. The cadet suffered minor injuries.
Shawn Stewart Brand, 39, of Winnipeg has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and disorderly conduct in or around licensed premises.
He remains in custody.
