January 20, 2015 8:28 AM | News

Winnipeg Police CrestA stolen ambulance-style vehicle used to transport 10 bedbug-sniffing canines has been located.

Winnipeg police say the 2003 GMC vehicle was found abandoned in the 400 block of Young Street at around 4:20 p.m. on Monday — less than 24 hours after it had been stolen from the 2900 block of Pembina Highway.

The van belongs to Jim Artibello, owner of Ontario-based A-Scent K-9 Detection Services, who was hired by the province to utilize the services of his dogs to sniff out bedbugs at Manitoba housing complexes.

The van was stolen with 10 dogs inside early Monday morning. Eight of the dogs were eventually recovered after running loose in St. Vital, and two others were found late yesterday in the area of Dunkirk Drive and Moore Avenue.

No suspects have been arrested in relation to the theft.
