Man Stabbed in Alleged Assault by Girlfriend’s Brother

Winnipeg Police CrestTwo people have been charged with attempted murder after an assault earlier this month.

Winnipeg police were called to the 900 block of Mountain Avenue on the morning of January 12 to investigate a stabbing. Police say the victim had been sleeping when his girlfriend instructed her brother to punch and stab him. The victim’s girlfriend stood by as the alleged assault was taking place and encouraged her brother to continue.

The victim was able to escape the house and contact police.

Wanda Theresa Maytwayashing, 40, of Winnipeg was arrested on January 14. She has been charged with attempted murder and failing to comply with a recognizance order.

An arrest warrant for the second suspect was issued, and on Monday, police made an arrest. Sheldon Brent Maytwayashing, 38, of Winnipeg has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance order.

Both suspects remain in police custody.
