A 24-year-old Portage la Prairie man is in police custody, more than a year after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman.
The 30-year-old female victim was in her home on September 15, 2013 when RCMP say the suspect broke in and sexually assaulted her.
Justin Levasseur was arrested January 21 and has been charged with breaking and entering, sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, choking to overcome resistance and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
While being escorted from the court office for an appearance on January 23, police say Levasseur attempted to flee. He was re-arrested and charged with escaping custody, failing to comply with a probation order and two counts of resisting a police officer.
He appeared in Portage la Prairie court again on Monday.
