February 4, 2015 9:23 AM | News

Five horses have been killed in a barn fire northeast of Winnipeg.

The blaze in Oakbank on Hillside Road broke out at around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Jeff Hudson, acting fire chief with the Rural Municipality of Springfield, says the horses had no chance to escape from the flames.

Hudson also says a few cats may have been killed as well.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimate is yet available.
