A professional race car driver from Winnipeg is taking to a different kind of track to attempt to break a Guinness World Record.
Daniel Burkett, 19, will spend the next two days circling Speedworld Indoor Kart Track, where he plans to drive 700 kilometres between today and Wednesday.
Burkett is using the world record attempt as a way to raise money for Kidsport and awareness on the sport of racing.
“As a kid, growing up racing was my thing and I think every kid deserves to be apart of a sport and have it be what they’re good at and what they enjoy doing,” Burkett said.
He’s currently accepting sponsorships and donations and encourages anyone to race against him.
“Sport is a game-changer in many people’s lives,” said KidSport chair Matt Erhard. “Getting kids into the game is our number one mission and we are thrilled that Daniel Burkett has chosen to partner with KidSport Winnipeg.”
Burkett will race from 6 p.m. tonight to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
