A Winnipeg taxicab driver wasn’t injured after a would-be carjacker confronted him early Tuesday.
The 32-year-old driver had just picked up a man in the 300 block of Toronto Street at around 3:10 a.m. when the passenger took out a knife and demanded the cab.
The driver was able to take the keys with him before fleeing the area. The passenger then slashed two of the taxi’s tires before he also fled.
Winnipeg police caught up with the suspect at a convenience store in the 800 block of Ellice Avenue.
Kingston Leonard Paul, 18, of Winnipeg has been charged with robbery and mischief under $5,000.
He remains in custody.
