More than 1,000 donated books were dropped off to St. Vital Centre on Monday in support of Children’s Hospital.
Grade 5 and 6 students from Ecole Henri-Bergeron sorted and delivered the reading material for the St. Vital Centre Book Drive. The students wrote articles for their school paper, designed posters around the school and requested donations from teachers, family and friends to add to their haul.
“It’s heroic of these kids to be helping other kids in this way,” said Winnipeg Blue Bomber Steve Morley, who read to the students on Monday morning. “As a new father I now have new worries — one being the future health and health care of my boys, so I understand the importance of Children’s Hospital for all children and families in our communities.”
Additional books are needed and can donated until February 28 at the bins inside St. Vital Centre entrances during regular mall hours. The goal is to reach 40,000 books.
