The Manitoba government is funding construction of a new gymnasium at Lord Nelson School, in addition to new classroom space for the nursery to Grade 6 Winnipeg school.

The $4.4 million will provide a new 4,200-sq.-ft. gym and two 1,000-sq.-ft. classrooms to help reduce class sizes.

“The new gym will enhance the learning environment for Lord Nelson students and allow for more participation in sports and recreational activities that promote a healthy school community,” said Mark Wasyliw, chair, board of trustees for the Winnipeg School Division.

The new gymnasium is targeted for LEED Silver designation.

Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2016.
