Winnipeg Comedy FestivalNominees for the Winnipeg Comedy Festival’s first awards show have been revealed.

The Mics take place Sunday, April 12 at the Club Regent Event Centre, recognizing the best in comedy.

Nominees include Erica Sigurdson, Rebecca Kohler and Winnipeg’s Chantel Marostica in the best female standup category, and on the best male side, Graham Chittenden, Charlie Demers, Derek Edwards and David Pryde.

Toronto standup comic Simon Rakoff will host the evening, which end as a closer to the annual festival. WEC mainstay John Wing will be the subject of a lively roast and will also receive the first-ever Legacy Award.

“The awards are our way of saying thank you to the hundreds of comics who have come to our city to spread the power of laughter over the years,” said WCF artistic director Al Rae.

Nominees were chosen based on criteria of having performed at the festival at least twice, in addition to playing a positive role in promoting comedy, and bringing skill and innovation to their craft.

Single tickets are $22. The 2015 Winnipeg Comedy Festival runs April 6-12.
