New Canadian immigrants meet a puppy named Melo earlier this week in Winnipeg. (HANDOUT)
Newcomers to Canada and our city have met some furry residents.
Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency was out in the community this week greeting immigrants and talking to them about responsible pet ownership.
Staff work with the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba Inc. to introduce newcomers to dogs as companion animals.
Animal Services visited the IRCOM class on Monday and introduced Melo (above), and chatted with the class about pet behaviour. The class included new immigrants from Somalia, Iraq, and the Congo.
IRCOM helps new community members integrate and settle into Winnipeg life.
