RCMP Crest LogoA 16-year-old girl from rural Saskatchewan died Sunday after her vehicle became partly submerged in water.

Virden RCMP responded to the Harrison Bridge in the RM of Sifton, Manitoba at around 11 p.m., where the vehicle was resting in the river. The teen was extracted from the vehicle and taken to hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Police believe poor weather and icy road conditions played a role in the single-vehicle crash.

Alcohol is not considered a factor and the girl was wearing a seatbelt.
