An inmate from the minimum security unit at Stony Mountain Institution has been found dead.
Officials said Dennis Barry McFadden, 64, was found dead in his living unit on Monday.
Despite immediate attempts to revive him, staff members and emergency personnel were unable to do so.
Officials said the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will conduct a review, as they do in all cases of a death of an inmate.
McFadden was convicted of first degree murder in 1982 for the death of Marion MacKay in Saanich, B.C.
