A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged following a serious assault in downtown Winnipeg on Wednesday.
Police say both the suspect and 15-year-old female were in the care of Child and Family Services when the assault occurred in the area of Hargrave Street and Graham Avenue. They were known to each other and had been staying at the same hotel.
The victim remains in hospital in critical condition.
The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated sexual assault for his alleged involvement. He remains at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
Police add they found the female victim 11 minutes prior to her being reported missing.
The attack had the province vow to end the use of hotels to house foster children by June 1.
