City staff say they will help the owner of the MS River Rouge find a new dock after the closure of the Alexander Dock.
The city closed the dock due to safety concerns after a structural inspection.
“We recognize that the River Rouge and river boat tourism industry has a long history in Winnipeg and it is important that we do what we can to help the tradition continue,” said Michael Jack, the city’s acting COO.
The city is meeting with the boat’s owner, Kyriakos Vogiatzakis, to discuss lease agreement matters such as property tax arrears and outstanding lease payments associated with the River Rouge’s docking time from 2012 to 2014.
Jack added that due to the size of the River Rouge, there are very few suitable docking locations, both publicly and privately run, that can accommodate the boat in addition to providing the necessary parking to accommodate patrons.
