An inmate serving a nearly five-year sentence at Stony Mountain Institution has died.

Prison officials say Dwayne Mervin Flett, 32, was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday. Staff performed CPR, but he couldn’t be resuscitated.

At the time of his death, Flett was serving time for sexual assault and sexual interference.

Flett’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

Police and the coroner have also been notified and Correctional Service Canada will investigate.

Stony Mountain Institution is a medium security prison north of Winnipeg.
