3,000 Hogs Die in Barn Fire Southeast of Winnipeg

RCMP Crest LogoA barn that caught fire on Friday afternoon is said to have killed 3,000 hogs southeast of Winnipeg.

Firefighters responded to two fires in the RM of Ste. Anne, Manitoba at around 12:45 p.m. approximately five kilometres of Highway 1 on Highway 12.

RCMP say the barn was fully engulfed and couldn’t be saved. The cause is under investigation.

Not far away, a grass fire broke out approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Steinbach on Road 32 East at around 1 p.m. Fifteen homes were evacuated as a precaution, but all residents have since returned home. The fire was put out by 3:30 p.m.

Fire crews remain at both scenes and police say the investigation into both fires is ongoing.
