SAFE Roads Campaign Launches for Summer

Manitoba motorists are once again being reminded to slow down and be mindful of construction workers on the road this summer.

The 2015 SAFE Roads campaign launched Thursday to raise awareness around safe driving practices and the importance of slowing down when approaching designated work sites.

“Keeping our road workers and emergency personnel safe is as simple as slowing down and being aware of workers on the road,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Steve Ashton.

“We all have the right to a safe workplace and this includes our province’s construction workers, firefighters, police officers, paramedics and utility workers working on or alongside the road.”

The theme of this year’s campaign, “This is My Workplace. Slow Down,” will be reinforced through billboard and transit bus advertisements.

On Thursday, CAA Manitoba released figures showing the majority of people aren’t slowing down and pulling over when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on roadways.
