The Winnipeg Goldeyes’ have their first 2015 pre-season win under their belt, defeating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-0 on Wednesday night at Shaw Park.
The Fish redeemed themselves from a 13-11 loss to the RedHawks the previous night. Goldeyes shortstop Brad Boyer hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, which stood up for the game-winning run.
Goldeyes third baseman Josh Mazzola hit the second home run of the night, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the third. Ramon Ortega added a run late in the fifth to give the Fish six runs on six hits.
“Boyer made a heck of a play in the hole, and Brady Wilson made a great catch in the first inning,” Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said, “but, other than that, we were able to record, I would say, 20 easier outs, and the defense – knock on wood – has been really good for us here through the first three exhibition games.”
The full team is expected to travel to Kansas City to face the T-Bones tonight, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Fish will wrap up their pre-season with a Tuesday night road game against the Wichita Wingnuts.
The first regular season game is May 21 against the Grand Prairie AirHogs on the road. Winnipeg fans will see the team June 2 for the home opener versus the Sioux Falls Canaries.
