WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government is planning to make it harder for people who abuse vulnerable adults to keep working in facilities such as hospitals and personal care homes.

A bill before the legislature would alert current and former employers when a worker is believed to have abused a patient.

The bill would also ensure regulatory bodies are alerted.

Family Services Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross says it’s an improvement on the current system,.

Employers are only told about abuse, if they file a request to the province’s adult abuse registry.
