Winnipeg Folk FestivalA community grant provided by The Winnipeg Foundation will allow more than 500 people to attend the Winnipeg Folk Festival this summer.

The $26,000 grant will assist the Guest for a Day program when the festival is held July 9-12.

“The Guest for a Day program gives international students the opportunity — to experience a long-time Winnipeg tradition, [and] the opportunity for students to spend the day together, learning about local and international sounds,” said Lauren Konrad, student integration coordinator with Red River College.

The program will provide transport, meals and a tour of the festival site to 533 individuals from 39 community groups.

This year, students who took part in the Winnipeg Folk Festival’s Musical Mentors program at Maples Collegiate and Isaac Newton schools will be taking part in Guest For a Day along with other schools and community groups.
