CBC Dethrones CJOB as Winnipeg’s Top Radio Station

Radio MicWINNIPEG — A major shift in the local radio landscape shook up the spring ratings book.

Numbers released Thursday by Numeris are the first indicator of the newly-branded stations of Kiss 102.3, 99.1 Fresh Radio and 97.5 BIG FM.

But the main story is the drop of 680 CJOB as the city’s No. 1 radio station. That new title belongs to CBC Radio One, showing while listeners still prefer news talk, the king on Jack Blick Avenue has taken a backseat — at least in the last couple months.

Another change was the jump of 92 CITI FM’s morning show to TV with “Wheeler in the Morning” to City on January 12. Compared to the same period last year, CITI rose to a 7.9 share from a 6.6, but maintained its position in the latest book.

The data measured the period from March 2 to April 26, 2015.

The below data is for the 12+ demographic, with the Spring 2014 ratings in parentheses for comparison.

  1. CBC Radio One — 11.9 (11.7)
  2. 680 CJOB — 11.5 (12.0)
  3. QX 104 — 9.9 (9.1)
  4. 103.1 Virgin Radio — 9.0 (7.0)
  5. 92 CITI FM — 7.9 (7.9)
