Winnipeg’s downtown is getting spruced up ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is installing 102 giant flower baskets along Portage Avenue.

“These flower baskets help to make our downtown a vibrant and exciting place to be and reflect its dynamism and inviting quality. We want people to feel welcome here at the heart of our city,” said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.

In addition, 41 medium flower baskets will be placed on other downtown streets, and 21 baskets around bases of trees. The BIZ is also placing thousands of planted flowers in baskets and sidewalk planters on Main Street, Graham Street, Broadway, and other areas.
