WINNIPEG — Looking for something to do this weekend? How do the Zoolympics sound?

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is putting on the event Saturday in partnership with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries to encourage the community to visit the zoo, enjoy the outdoors, get active and have fun.

Activities include a chance for visitors to make their own medals and special appearances by Winston the polar bear mascot along with a meet and greet with IMPACT ambassadors Obby Khan, Janine Stephens and Jared Funk starting at 9:45 a.m. All activities are free with regular zoo admission.

Zoolympics schedule:

9:45 a.m. — Athlete meet and greet and kick off
10 a.m. — Obby Khan, former CFL football Pplayer leads activity circuit
12 p.m. — Janine Stephens, Olympic silver medalist (rowing) leads activity circuit
2 p.m. — Jared Funk, three-time Paralympic medalist (wheelchair rugby) leads activity circuit

“The zoo is a great place for family fun and activity and this Saturday as an added bonus visitors get a chance to meet top Canadian athletes which is really special,” said Kevin Hunter, Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s director of marketing and community engagement.

The zoo will be open from 9 am to 5 pm.
