Heart and Stroke’s ‘Big Bike’ Hitting Winnipeg Streets

WINNIPEG — The wheels on the bike will go round and round starting today in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

The annual Big Bike campaign will consist of 29 riders and one driver who pedal through Winnipeg.

The ride will begin at the Manitoba legislature at 11 a.m. and head down Broadway towards Edmonton Street, turning right on Graham Avenue, right on Carlton Street and right on St. Mary Avenue before making a left on Memorial Boulevard and back to the legislature. The first leg of the ride will run until 2:30 p.m., with another planned for between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Riders will embark on the same route on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the ride will start at Shaw Park and wind through the Exchange District and back to the home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The same route will apply on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The bike is eight feet wide by 30 feet long and weighs over 1,950 lbs. Participants put more than 12,000 km on the bikes each year.

Big Bike rides help raise funds to prevent disease, save lives and promote recovery.
