Two people have been arrested and charged after a man was shot in St. James on Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the 2700 block of Portage Avenue just after 5 a.m. for reports of gunshots near Legends Restaurant and Sports Bar.
A 22-year-old man made it to hospital on his own after being shot in the abdominal area. He’s listed in stable condition.
Police say the victim and three others were in the area when he met the two suspects. An argument broke out and the victim pepper sprayed two men. One of the men retaliated by firing a gun at the victim, striking him once in the upper body.
David Paul Moeckel, 23, and Christopher Paul Seguin, 19, both of Winnipeg, have been charged with aggravated assault along with numerous firearms and breach of court order-related offences. Seguin has also been charged with possession of cocaine.
The two were arrested around 9:30 p.m. in the St. James area. Police were also able to recover the firearm allegedly used.
Both suspects remain in custody.
