Winnipeg Folk FestivalYou don’t usually think of health and wellness when the Winnipeg Folk Festival comes to mind, but this year will be a little different.

A focus on wellness activities is being brought to the forefront as the festival holds its popular bike ride to Birds Hill Park, yoga classes on both sides of Festival Drive and an emphasis on the trail running through the park’s many paths.

“Our family area has always been an active and interactive space and we’ve promoted cycling to and at the festival for a number of years now,” said executive director Lynne Skromeda. “This year we are further expanding the fun elements of festival life to bring health and wellness activities to our whole audience.”

The annual two-hour bike ride will depart the morning of July 8 as cyclists make the trek to beat the rush of the festival campground load-in.

The Snowberry Field stage plays host to a yoga party on Saturday, July 11 at 11 a.m. Yoga will also be offered in both the festival campground and family area this year.

Trail Run Manitoba is organizing daily fun runs on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Runners are asked to meet near the audience services tent outside the main gate.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival runs from July 9-12.
