An 18-year-old man has been charged with mischief after allegedly shining a green laser light at the Winnipeg police Air 1 helicopter.
Police were originally called to the Red River Ex grounds just after midnight on Sunday for a group of males causing a disturbance.
While Air 1 was scanning the area, the helicopter was struck by a laser on several occasions, filling the cockpit with bright green light.
The suspect then fled in a vehicle travelling southbound on the Perimeter Highway. Ground crews eventually caught up with him in the area of Setter Street. Officers also seized the laser pointer.
The man also faces a charge of projecting a light source into navigable airspace.
He was released on a promise to appear.
