Shovels are in the ground on a new kindergarten to Grade 8 school in southeast Winnipeg.
Ground was broken Wednesday on the $24.8 million École Sage Creek School and early learning centre.
The new school will accommodate 600 English and French immersion students from Sage Creek and the surrounding areas.
“Sage Creek is a dynamic, growing community and this new school will benefit families for years to come,” said Premier Greg Selinger.
“By ensuring children in Manitoba have access to state-of-the-art, multi-purpose learning facilities to receive the solid early childhood education they need to succeed academically throughout their school years, we’re investing in the future of this community and our province.”
The 76,940-sq.-ft. school will include an early learning and child-care centre for 114 infant, preschool and school-aged children with up to 2,000-sq.-ft. of early learning space.
Construction was set to begin in 2014, but will now start in July with a completion date of early 2017.
